Run a boutique or online store in the UK? Since the UK–India trade agreement came into force in July 2026, Indian-made kurtis and suits can enter the UK duty-free. Here is how duty, VAT, documents and labelling work – and how to order from a Jaipur manufacturer.
From our collection
Under the UK–India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), in force since 15 July 2026, women's garments made in India (HS chapter 62, such as kurtis, kurta sets and Anarkali suits) can be imported into the UK at 0% customs duty, down from the standard 12%. You still pay 20% import VAT, which VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim. You need a GB EORI number and proof of Indian origin to claim the 0% rate.
| Item | UK rule | |---|---| | Standard duty (MFN) | 12% | | Duty for Indian-origin goods under CETA | 0% | | Import VAT | 20% (reclaimable if VAT registered) | | Low-value parcels | Consignments of £135 or less have duty relief and VAT is charged at the point of sale; this relief is due to end by October 2028 | | Typical express transit from India | About 3–5 working days |
UK law requires fibre content labels on textile products (Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regulations 2012). Care and country-of-origin labels are good practice. We can stitch your own labels with the correct fibre content.
