Invited to an Indian wedding between November and February? Evening functions can get cold, especially in North India, the UK, Canada and the USA. Here is how to dress beautifully and stay warm.

The best fabrics for a winter wedding

  • Velvet – warm, rich and perfect for evening functions.
  • Silk and brocade – structured and festive, good for day functions.
  • Wool-blend shawls and pashmina – the easiest way to add warmth over any outfit.

Avoid very light chiffon or cotton for outdoor evening functions unless you add a warm layer.

Outfit ideas for every function

| Function | What to wear | Why it works | |---|---|---| | Mehendi (day) | Bright cotton-silk or printed kurta set | Light and easy to sit in | | Sangeet (evening) | Velvet Anarkali with organza dupatta | Twirls well and keeps you warm | | Wedding ceremony | Silk or velvet suit in a jewel tone | Rich, traditional and photo-ready | | Reception | Velvet kurta with brocade palazzo | Regal and comfortable for long evenings |

Two easy winter wedding looks

The regal minimal look: our black velvet Anarkali kurta with gold brocade palazzo. The gold brocade collar, potli buttons and cuffs look festive without heavy embroidery. Add gold jhumkas and a potli bag.

The twirl-ready look: our wine velvet Anarkali suit set with organza dupatta. Lace trims on the V-neck, cuffs and hem, a full flare and a sheer dupatta make it perfect for sangeet and reception.

How to layer without hiding your outfit

  • Drape a pashmina or wool shawl over the shoulders – it looks elegant in photos too.
  • Wear a long coat to and from the venue and take it off for pictures.
  • Add skin-tone thermals under a lined velvet kurta – nobody will know.
  • Choose closed juttis or heels for outdoor lawns.

What not to wear

  • White or all-black at some traditional ceremonies – check with the hosts first. Black with gold, like our velvet set, is usually perfect for receptions and parties.
  • Outfits heavier than the bride's.
  • Very high heels on grass or sand.

Getting it in time

Our ready sizes dispatch in 2–4 working days, and custom-fit pieces in 5–7 working days. International delivery takes 5–10 business days after dispatch, with duties included to the USA, UK, Canada, UAE and Australia – so order 2–3 weeks before the wedding.

Frequently asked questions

What should a guest wear to an Indian wedding in winter? A velvet or silk suit in a jewel tone, with a shawl or long coat for outdoor functions.

Can I wear black to an Indian wedding? Black is usually fine for receptions, sangeet and parties, especially with gold details. For the main ceremony, a bright jewel tone is a safer choice.

Is velvet too hot for an indoor wedding? A lined velvet Anarkali is comfortable indoors, and a light organza dupatta keeps the look airy.

How early should I order my outfit from abroad? Order 2–3 weeks before the wedding to allow for making, dispatch and delivery.
